About the Rhythm Natives

In the early '00s, Chatsworth High School became the meeting grounds for the band that is known as the Rhythm Natives. They were founded on a common love for hip hop and live instrumentation, and the integration of the two. Fronted by two emcees - Jon Narboneta, and Glen Techico - they’ve expanded into a six man unit that also includes: bassist Matt Mora, drummer Robert Fabros, keyboardist Chez Guinto, and guitarist Martin Fabros.

Their sound is found between the cracks of genre divisions. The organic mix of hip hop, jazz, R&B, and soul has earned them the respect of various events and venues up and down the California coast. Their lyrics are in tune with everyday experiences and social trends – all resonating with their listeners, who are often found immersed in a Rhythm Natives melody and rhyme.

In 2007, they recorded their live show at the Temple Bar in Los Angeles. Since then, copies have been floating around Southern California and beyond. The musical energy heard on each track is so significant, that it has left fans wanting more. In October 2010, the Rhythm Natives answered with the release of their self titled debut album that is sold in both digital and physical forms. They have proven to be on the rise, bringing a breath of fresh air to the art they love so much.

Wattup fam?! Damm yo, where you’ve been? That’s probably what you guys and gals been asking about the crew. Yep, it’s been a minute since we’ve done shows or put up any new material (almost 8 months, damm?!).

We’ve been in the lab making new tunes, and getting ready to record with Asi (Native Guns/Bambu/ Stella Monbella, etc..) We are currently testing this blog, refining it, and soon we will launch the new RhythmNatives.com website with the help of our webmaster Sherwin Techico.

There is a Rhythm Natives show this Saturday (sept.6/2PM/Generations Stage) in San Pedro and later on that evening in Los Angeles (Bridges/DP SOUND).

Join us for the 17th Annual Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture (FPAC) on September 6 & 7, 2008 at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro, CA. FPAC is Southern California’s largest and longest running Filipino tradition. FPAC is made possible by over 250 participating artists, 400 volunteers and 25,000 attendees over the weekend. Set in the breathtaking seaside park of Point Fermin, FPAC has something for the whole family to enjoy. Headlining this year’s Festival is Latin Soul Living Legend, Joe Bataan. Described as a romantic street punk, a jailbird with spirit, a champion of the blue-collar underdog – Joe Bataan is a rebel with soul. Known for such hits as “Ordinary Guy (Afrofilipino),” “Gypsy Woman,” and “Mi Nube (My Cloud)” Joe Bataan’s music has a multigenerational and multicultural reach. He returns to FPAC to bless us again with his music and boundless energy. Also headlining this year is Christine “Happy Slip” Gambito. An internet celeberity, Happy Slip is the 8 most subscribed ever on YouTube and has had over 6 million hits!!! Earlier this year, she was also named an Ambassador by the Department of Tourism, Philippines. In addition to Joe Bataan and Happy Slip, we are proud to bring back some FPAC favorites, such as Bambu, Anthony Castelo, Kayamanan Ng Lahi Philippine Folk Arts, Ronalla Club of Los Angeles, Kiwi, the Committee, Sampaguita Dance Ensemble, Rhythm Natives, KULTURA, IMB Academy, the Balut eating contest, Seniors’ Vegetable contest, the youth Ati-Atihan parade, live art and painting at the Pilipino Artist Network Pavilion and much much more. We are also excited to introduce newcomers to the Festival, such as the Tinikling Dance Battle and Modern Dance Showcase featuring Kaba Modern, as well as a whole variety of amazing performers. There is so much to experience at this year’s FPAC. Please check back often at our website – www. filamarts. org – for any information and additional updates.
