About the Rhythm Natives

In the early '00s, Chatsworth High School became the meeting grounds for the band that is known as the Rhythm Natives. They were founded on a common love for hip hop and live instrumentation, and the integration of the two. Fronted by two emcees - Jon Narboneta, and Glen Techico - they’ve expanded into a six man unit that also includes: bassist Matt Mora, drummer Robert Fabros, keyboardist Chez Guinto, and guitarist Martin Fabros.

Their sound is found between the cracks of genre divisions. The organic mix of hip hop, jazz, R&B, and soul has earned them the respect of various events and venues up and down the California coast. Their lyrics are in tune with everyday experiences and social trends – all resonating with their listeners, who are often found immersed in a Rhythm Natives melody and rhyme.

In 2007, they recorded their live show at the Temple Bar in Los Angeles. Since then, copies have been floating around Southern California and beyond. The musical energy heard on each track is so significant, that it has left fans wanting more. In October 2010, the Rhythm Natives answered with the release of their self titled debut album that is sold in both digital and physical forms. They have proven to be on the rise, bringing a breath of fresh air to the art they love so much.

MEET DJ DUEL

Pushing boundaries and challenging oneself defines our good friend and colleague DJ Duel. I first met Duel in the confines of the now defunct Eagle Rock Underground store. My first real collaboration with him was when my fellow group member, Marc Spector thought that Duel would be the best fit to deejay for our group called L.A. Proof. Duel, without hesitation, called for rehearsals right away. We got invited to his studio and was offered a warm bottle of 211 Steel Reserve (all good homie, I didn’t feel like having a stomach ache that night). Years passed and we are still collaborating, but now on different mediums. Duel, along with his trusted team members runs the Oishi Media company. The Rhythm Natives have partnered with Oishi on several projects and will have more collaborations in the future.
I want to expose people who we work with and want to let everyone know that no matter what life brings, there are those that are still going to do what they love no matter what it takes. On the personal tip, this cat Duel is one funny dude, real brother from another and will yelp the shit out of anything. Ask him about Le Sex Shoppe, he’ll tell you (actually, I’ll post the link ).

WHERE DO YOU CALL IT HOME? – Home is where my heart is, and my heart is at my fingertips, my fingertips are on turntables. So my Heart, soul, and body join together at the exact point of scratch explosion.

WHAT DO YOU DO? Im a Skratch DJ 1 of 6 members of the Infamous SpinCycleLA Crew, I am also the Director of Photography (Video) for OISHI Media.

TRUE BEAUTY IS?  Living life the way it should be lived. On my terms. Nothing can be anymore beautiful than that.

BEATS… I’m big Budamunky Beats (Jazzy Sport Records, Tokyo, Japan) and J-Dilla (Stones Throw Los Angeles, CA)

TRUE SEXY IS… a new crossfader, a fine tuned turntable, and endless hours of mindless scratching straight from the heart

MUSIC IS MY… salvation. Every aspect of my life revolves around music. Probably about 85-90% of my time awake, im listening to music.

ART DOES NOT… always define who I am. Art is an expression of who I presently portray, who I was at one point in the past, and who I want to be in the future. In which the 3 could never be at the same place at the same time.

MY NIGHTS ARE… dedicated to either listening to music, making music, or capturing music on film or photos. Whether it be my own, or someone elses.

THESE 3 TURN ME ON… Female rappers, Women driving dope cars, and the smell of brand new Nike Cortez.

SELF-KNOWLEDGE … is deceiving
ENOUGH OF … all these questions. LOL. Enough with the Haters already. Keep the complications at the door.

MY CREATIVITY IS… known to retire DJ’s. hahahahaha JK.

TRUE POWER IS… is earned, not handed down.

LIFE CAN BE THE… funnest roller coaster ride in the World if you let it, or you could shit yourself at every drop and live with that stench clouding your ever move.

TO LOVE IS TO? Accept everything for it is, and realize its importance at its truest state.

I’VE GOT FLOW BECAUSE… Everyday im HUSTLIN!
